John DeMartini

John DeMartini was named head women's soccer coach at San Francisco State ahead of the 2021 season and found success with that squad. The Gators went 6-3-2 in CCAA play and DeMartini was named CCAA Coach of the Year. Prior to that, he served as an assistant coach for the 2019 season and was a volunteer assistant in 2018. That season, the regionally-ranked Gators secured the No. 4 seed in the CCAA Championships, marking the program's first postseason appearance since 2010. In his second season, the Gators were hampered by injuries that saw him use 15 different lineups in 18 matches.


DeMartini's coaching extensive coaching résumé includes stints at Sacramento State, Pacific, and Stanislaus State. He also coaches for collegiate camp staffs at Cal, Notre Dame, Pitt, Santa Clara, and Stanford, and has previously worked camps at UC Santa Barbara. He coached professionally in the Women's Premier Soccer League from 2001-03 as an assistant coach for Elk Grove Pride.


The veteran soccer coach also brings over 20 years of club coaching experience, having coached for San Joaquin Stanislaus Futbol Club; Elk Grove United Soccer Club; San Juan Soccer Club in Folsom, California; Sereno Soccer Club in Phoenix; and Mountain View Los Altos Soccer Club.


DeMartini has an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, an NSCAA National Diploma, an NSCAA Advanced Regional certification, NSCAA goalkeeper 1 and 2 licenses, and USSF D, E, and F licenses. In addition to his extensive soccer résumé, DeMartini has a background as a gourmet chef.

Domenique Kastl

Kastl (née Banta) returned to San Francisco State in Spring 2021 as a volunteer assistant coach. She finished her college career as a Gator in 2018, making four appearances in net with one start. She went 1-0-1 with a .778 saves percentage and made seven total saves as the Gators advanced to the CCAA Championships Semifinals.


Banta graduated from Cal Poly in 2018 and earned her MS in Microbiology from SF State in 2020. Banta began her professional career as a research associate at Novome Biotechnologies, a San Francisco-based biotechnology company. She is currently enrolled in UC Santa Cruz's Biomedical Science and Engineering: Microbial Biology and Pathogenesis PhD program. For her dissertation research, Banta joined Nobel laureate Carol Greider's lab.


Banta began her collegiate soccer career at Fresno State, where she played 22 matches before transferring to Cal Poly, where she made the Big West Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for academics. Banta attended Meridian High School in Idaho, where she was an All-5A District III honorable mention and team captain as a senior. She played her first two years at Moanalua High School in Honolulu. She is a member of the Moanalua Varsity Cross Country Hall of Fame after representing the program at the 2011 state championship meet, where she was 42nd overall with a 3-mile time of 22:24.40.
