Deedee Alexander

Diana ‘Deedee’ Alexander (formerly Sanguinetti) was named the head women's soccer coach at Newberry College in January 2014 after serving the program as an assistant coach for two years.


Alexander led the Wolves to their fourth consecutive seven win season in 2019, finishing the year with a 7-7-3 record. The season was highlighted by a three-match win streak that saw Newberry beat Corker (3-0), Mars Hill (2-1) and Converse (4-0). The Wolves qualified for the South Atlantic Conference Tournament for the fourth time in her tenure. Daphne Heyaime was named to the SAC All-Conference second-team, while Jacqueline Aldrete and Emma harms were both named Honorable Mentions.


In 2018, Alexander coached the Wolves to their third consecutive season with seven or more wins. Alexander coached an All-SAC Second Team honoree and United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Third Team selection in Daphne Heyaime.


In 2021, her eighth season at the helm, Alexander coached Newberry to their sixth seven-win season. The Wolves won seven of their last 10 games and clinched a SAC Tournament berth where they faced no. 9 Catawba in the first round. At the conclusion of the 2021 campaign, Courtney Velazquez was selected to the all-conference second team as a defender.


Alexander came to Newberry from the University of San Diego, where she helped the Toreros win their first West Coast Conference title and aided USD in a run to the round of 16 in the 2011 Women’s College Cup.


Prior to joining the coaching staff at USD, Alexander was a member of the staff at Kansas Wesleyan University where KWU won multiple conference titles and reached the round of 16 in the NAIA national tournament. Alexander previously served as a volunteer assistant at Cal State-Northridge and as an athlete recruiter for Nike’s Velocity Sports Performance program.


Before reaching the coaching ranks, Alexander wrapped up her playing career as a member of the Pepperdine women’s soccer team. At Pepperdine, Alexander started as a center defender on one of the top ranked defenses in the country. As a junior the Argentine national team scouted Alexander, before she graduated from Pepperdine with a degree in Psychology and Child Education.


Alexander joined the nationally ranked Waves after beginning her collegiate career at Long Beach State. As a freshman Alexander was named first team All-Big West and despite battling injuries as a sophomore was named honorable mention All-Big West her second season.

Born and raised in Connecticut, Alexander has played soccer since she was a youth. Her prestigious Yankee United Heat club team won seven Connecticut state championships and twice Alexander was named MVP. Yankee United Heat won regionals twice and once was the national champion.


After moving to California, Alexander joined the Hart High School soccer team and also the Valley United Stars 83 club side. At Hart, Alexander was a four-year varsity starter and team captain, while being named first team all-conference on three occasions and twice earning first team All-California Interscholastic Federation. In 1999 Hart HS won the California state title.

In the club ranks, Alexander captained Valley United Stars 83, a club side that won two regional championships and 57 tournament championships. A one-time regional tournament MVP, Sanguinetti finished her time with Valley United Stars 83 with a team record of 413-48 with 315 team shutouts.


Alexander is married to Newberry Associate Athletic Director Wayne Alexander. They have one child, Luli.

Nicole Borowinski

Nicole Borowinski will enter her fourth season coaching with Newberry College and her first season as Assistant Head Coach for the Women's Soccer program. As Assistant Head Coach, Borowinski collaborates with coaching staff on planning, organizing, and conducting team practices, running all aspects of the Women's Soccer Program in the absence of the Head Coach, the compliance liaison, and recruiting bringing in 12 players in the class of 2023 signing class.


Borowinski finished her master's degree at Newberry College in Organization Development and Leadership in 2023.


As a Wolf, Borowinski helped coach the women's soccer program to back-to-back conference tournament appearences in 2021 and 2022. The Wolves have a win vs. a top 10 ranked Lenoir-Rhyne in 2021.


Prior to Newberry Borowinski coached club soccer for Del Mar Carmel Valley Sharks from 2015 to 2020. Where she led the Sharks to multiple tournament and league championships. With the Sharks, Borowinski coached the '99, '02, '04, '05, '06, '09, and '11 teams. Borowinski also trained and mentored competitive and recreational youth soccer teams year-round. Including developing practice regimens for the weekly practice sessions, game planning, and mentoring/developing players. From 2016-2020 the Sharks were two-time SDDA finalists, two-time CRL Play-in finalists, and four-time SCDSL finalists.


Before Del Mar, Borowinski coached four seasons at the San Diego Football Academy. While at the San Diego Football Academy, Borowinski coached the U12 and U14 Girls teams as well as the U8 boys teams. Borowinski led the U12 squad to a CSL Cup Championship in 2015. While with the San Diego Football Academy, Borowinski was a Junior Varsity Head Coach at Poway High School in Poway, Calif., where she conducted the teams practices with the goal of teaching skill work, and the fundamentals of the game.


Before Poway, Borowinski coached at Patrick Henry and for the Crusader Soccer club from 2011-12. Borowinski coached the Crusader U8 and U10 teams while developing and conducting all training sessions including all tactical and technical aspects of the game.


Borowinski started her coaching career at Grossmont College where she served as a Volunteer Assistant coach for the 2011 and the 2012 fall seasons.


Before coaching, Borowinski played collegiately at Kansas Wesleyan University, where she gained her bachelor's degree in Physical Education and a minor in nutrition. As a Coyote, Borowinski led her team to a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Championship, Conference Tournament Championship, as well as, NAIA National Championship appearance and making it to the round of 16.


Before Kansas Wesleyan Borowinski was at Columbus State in 2008 where she took a redshirt season. Before Columbus State, She played her freshman and sophomore season at Grossmont College in San Diego, California. As a Griffin, Borowinski contributed to two Pacific Coast Conference Championships.

Alexis Carrillo

Alexis graduated from Newberry in 2016 before joining the coaching staff. She is responsible for training Newberry's goalkeepers. She also currently serves as the Assistant Director of Game Day Operations.


Statistics

2014- Started in 19 games… Made 69 saves for a Goals Against Average of .57... Posted a 9-5-4 record in goal.

At Cerritos College

Named a First Team All-American, First Team All-West Region and Second Team South Coast Conference player... Played in 21 games with a 15-0-1 record and a 0.43 goals against average with five shutouts. In 2011, she was named First Team All-South Coast Conference with a 13-2-0 record to go along with 12 shutouts and a 0.28 Goals Against Average.


At Bishop Amat Memorial HS

Was scholar athlete and part of the National Honor Roll Society.
