Chris Swift

Chris Swift enters his third season as head coach of the men’s soccer program. Under Swift, the men’s soccer program emphasizes success on the field, in the classroom, and in spiritual growth and character development.

On the field, Swift guided the Panthers to a 10-8-1 overall record and 6-3 SLIAC record in 2014, both improvements on the 2013 season of 6-10-4, 5-3-1. 2014 also saw the Panthers win the Raven-Quaker Classic hosted by Anderson University and Earlham College. In his two years as head coach, the Panthers have placed one player on the NCCAA All-American list, eight players on the All-Conference teams, two players on the NCCAA All-Region team and have garnered a total of six Conference Players of the Week and two NCCAA National Players of the Week.

Success in the classroom is also very important. The men’s soccer program earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the first time in program history for the 2013-2014 academic year. The Panthers qualified with a team GPA of 3.36, the 34th highest team GPA of all qualifying men’s teams in the nation. In just two years under Swift, nine players have been named to the SLIAC All-Academic Team, and three players have been named NCCAA Scholar-Athletes.

When it comes to spiritual growth and character development, the men’s soccer team hosts regular Bible studies and is also very active with the Special Olympics program in Southern Illinois. Growing and giving back is an essential part of the men’s soccer program.

Swift also serves as an Associate Staff Coach for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), leading and instructing introductory level coaching courses.

Prior to arriving at Greenville, Swift spent four years as an assistant coach at two NCAA Division I institutions (Eastern Kentucky University and Lamar University). In his one season at EKU, the team finished 10-7-3, posting the first winning record in program history. The Lamar University soccer program improved all three years that Swift was a member of the coaching staff, culminating in 2011 when the Cardinals enjoyed the most successful season in the five-year history of the program, earning the No. 3 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament.

A 2006 graduate of Vanguard University in California with a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Political Science, Swift holds four coaching certifications – NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, USSF "C" License, USSF National Youth License, and NSCAA Goalkeeping Level 3 Diploma.

He and his wife, Marissa, reside in Greenville.
