Stefan Skillman

Stefan Skillman is entering his fifth season (2023-24) as the head women's soccer coach.

Plagued with injuries during Fall of 2022, Skillman and the Bearcats struggled to find a rythm throughout the season. The didn't stop them from competing in nearly every single match, tying or falling by only one goal in nine of their 16 matches. They picked up their sole win of the season against a strong Northern State team shutting them out 1-0.

Play got back to normal for Coach Skillman and his girls in Fall of 2021, as they played a full 16 game schedule. The Bearcats saw major improvement from the Spring to the Fall, picking up two more wins. They had two conference wins beginning with a 1-0 victory in Liberty, Missouri against William Jewell. On the first day of October, the Bearcats celebrated an overtime win (2-1), on home turf, against Lindenwood University. Skillman coached Reagan Edwards to 3rd team All-GLVC, his first All-GLVC player in his tenure at SBU.

The 2020 season was played in the spring of 2021 due to COVID. Opening against conference-favorites in Rockhurst, the Bearcats held the Hawks to a 1-1 tie on their home turf. Another close match came against #25 McKendree, where SBU fell 3-2. Just two games later, the team nearly upset #19 Indianapolis in the 1-0 loss.

During his first year at SBU in 2019, Skillman helped the team to a 3-13-1 (2-13-0 GLVC) record. Skillman led the women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over rival Drury early in the year.

Skillman has 11 years of coaching experience, 4 as an assistant and 7 as a head coach. From 2016-2019 Skillman coached at York College where he served as the Head Women's Soccer coach. In his time there he rebuilt the team from a 12 player roster to a 33 player roster, taking the team from 0 wins against NAIA opponents to two consecutive years of 10 win seasons. Along with their improvement in wins, he helped the team qualify for the KCAC Conference tournament two years in a row.

In 2017, Skillman was named KCAC Coach of the Year. He has guided 11 players to All-KCAC awards, 2 NSCAA College Team Ethics & Sportsmanship awards, 2 Player KCAC Character Medallion awards, and 3 Daktronics NAIA Women's Soccer Scholar Athletes.

In 2013, Skillman started the women's soccer program at Sheridan College, serving as the head coach until 2016. He guided 9 players to Region IX All-Academic team in his time there. From 2011-2013, Skillman served as the Graduate Assistant Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach & Goal Keeper Coach at Dakota Wesleyan University. From 2008-2011 he was the Head Assistant Men’s Coach & Goal Keeper Coach at Grace Bible College.

Skillman now resides in Bolivar with his wife, three daughters, and son.

The site was a great resource to sort colleges by my selection criteria, connect with coaches and be a repository for all of my communications. Overall, the best site that I used in my college soccer search.
