Chris Case

Chris Case took over the women's soccer team in 2002. In that time, he has become the winningest coach in program history. Formerly also the head coach of the Blue Devil women's lacrosse team, he stepped down following the spring of 2014 to devote full-time efforts to the soccer position.


The 2012 season was one of the most successful in team history, with the Blue Devils tying the all-time win mark with a 12-4-3 record. The regular season included a 1-0 win at No. 1 ranked William Smith. It is believed to be the only time that a Fredonia State team has ever defeated a No. 1 ranked team, in any sport. That win earned the Blue Devils a spot in the NCAA Division III poll, its first-ever national ranking. They worked their way up as high as No. 22 during the regular season. The post-season consisted of a 2-2 double-overtime tie followed by a shootout victory over New Paltz in a SUNYAC Tournament first-round game at University Stadium, followed by a semifinal loss.


In Case's first season, the Blue Devils posted their best record -- a 9-8-2 mark -- over the previous eight seasons. They accepted an invitation to the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association tournament, the program's first post-season competition of any kind since 1994. The following season, Case was chosen 2003 SUNYAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year after guiding the Blue Devils to their first-ever SUNYAC Tournament appearance. It also marked the third time in the history of the program the Blue Devils won as many as 11 games in a season. Combined with the 2002 season, Case guided the team to back-to-back winning seasons after seven straight seasons finishing at .500 or below.


The Blue Devils took it one step further in 2005 when they scored a dramatic 2-1 home victory over Plattsburgh in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament. It was the program's first-ever conference tournament win. Following their ouster with a loss to Oneonta, the Blue Devils moved on to play in the ECAC Upstate New York Tournament where they added a 2-1 road win over New Paltz and finished with an 11-7-1 overall record. Their 6-3-1 record in the SUNYAC represented the Blue Devils' most conference wins in a season.


The Blue Devils returned to the SUNYAC Tournament during the 2006 season and went 1-1 in the 2007 ECAC Upstate New York Tournament. They reached the semifinals before falling to the eventual tournament champ. In 2008, the Blue Devils finished with an 11-6-1 record resulting in the highest winning percentage in program history (.639).


Before he became head coach, Case served a one-year apprenticeship as the Blue Devils' assistant coach. A former Blue Devil goalkeeper, he earned numerous honors and holds team goalkeeping records. He was also a dean's list student and made the SUNYAC All-Academic Team. He graduated from Fredonia State in 2001.


As a sophomore, he helped the Blue Devils win the 1998 SUNYAC and the ECAC Northeast championship titles and was subsequently named MVP of the ECAC tournament. He was a member of the 1999 Four Points Sheraton All-Tournament Team and the All SUNYAC Second Team. In his senior year, Case was selected as a SUNYAC Player of the Week, All SUNYAC First Team and All Region Second Team. He was chosen as a co-captain both his junior and senior seasons.


A native of Fairport, N.Y., Case was All County and All Greater Rochester in high school.
