Steven Clark

London-born, Coach Steve Clark's playing career included spells with the Elysians, London, and then as captain for the Manchester University team during his collegiate years graduating in 1982.

After earning his Bachelor of Science from Manchester, Clark spent a few years traveling and founded Sports Communications. He then made his move to the United States where he spent two years as a graduate assistant coach for the Frostburg State University men's soccer team. In 1989 the team made a fantastic run to the final four of the ECAC 1989 College Soccer Championship. Coach Clark is no stranger to new beginnings as he initiated and coached the first women's soccer club program at Frostburg State University, where he earned his Master's in Education.

By 1990, Clark would eventually find himself at Wesley College in Dover, D.E. where he was appointed as the head coach, immediately impacting the program. It wasn't until June of 2021 that Coach Clark would eventually part ways with the college to cap off an incredible 31 seasons tenure with the school.

Clark's accomplishments range all over the board. During his tenure, Coach Clark came away with an ECAC South championship in 2004. In 2009, Coach Clark and Wesley tied a 25-year-old NCAA record for the greatest one year turnaround for a men's soccer team. With a roster that included 22 freshmen and sophomores and a handful of injuries, Clark entered into the postseason conference tournament as the 7th seed and pulled off a pair of wins before falling in the championship match.

For his consistent success on the field and unwavering dedication to the program, Clark earned himself Coach of the Year accolades while at Wesley and has coached several All-Region selections and Conference players of the year.

Among his awards and recognition for his coaching tenure, Clark also coached G.R. Cannon who went on to play for D.C. United inMajor League Soccer. Over his time at Wesley, Coach Clark amassed an astounding 257 victories with at least a .500 record.

While at Wesley, Clark served as an adjunct faculty from 1993-1995 where he taught classes in health and physical education, and strength and conditioning. From 1994-2000 Clark was appointed Director of Athletics for the college and led the campaign for Wesley to join the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference in 1997. Clark was then designated to the role of Director of International Programs and Global Initiatives where he helped the college build its first study abroad program.

Other areas of coaching involvement include stints at the Delaware Olympic Development Program, UNC Chapel Hill camps & other college clinics, and the WPSL Central Delaware squad as an assistant coach from 2007-08. Clark recently spent time abroad over the past year including working with Soccer Universities and at FC Pirin, Bulgaria and Dinamo, Zagreb current champions of Croatia.

Off the pitch, Clark has been a member of the United Soccer Coaches since 1994. He worked as Director of Athletics and Director for Global Initiatives during his time at Wesley and served on various NCAA/ECAC selection committees. He also holds a football license from the Football Association of England. Clark was selected to the Wesley College Hall of Fame in 2021.
