| Independence Boys Showcase | |  |  | | Our Head Coach David Lilly and I have just completed our first season here at Milligan College after taking charge this year. It has been the programs best season since 2012. There is a strong culture that has developed this year and the foundation is now set for us to compete for conference championships and be recognized on a national level. Prior to this year, Coach Lilly spent the previous 8 years at East Tennessee State University which was a new Division 1 program when he arrived. He managed to turn ETSU into a championship team and a national brand immediately; winning 4 Conference Championships and earning a bid to 3 NCAA Division I National Tournaments. Prior to ETSU, he was an assistant at Milligan for 3 years and also played here for 4 years. He was fortunate to be part of our 1st championship in 2006 and the program went on to win additional championships in 2009, 2011, and 2012. I, myself have played semi-professionally in both England and Australia, moving here to Milligan from my previous role with the MLS team Chicago Fire.
We pride ourselves on the development of players and believe this is the foundation for any successful program. You will be part of a professional environment that will develop you as a person, a player, and an athlete. During our combined 15 years in coaching, we have helped get players to the MLS and the USL, and also to pro teams in Israel, Denmark, Costa Rica and Thailand. Aaron Schoenfeld from Knoxville, Tennessee graduated and went on to get drafted in the MLS and is currently playing with Maccabi Tel Aviv who competed in the Europa League this year.
We have a strong relationship with the Olympic Training Center here in Johnson City, TN who work full time with our team. This means that our players will have access to full time sport scientists, strength and conditioning coaches, and GPS Catapult units for training and games. This way we can optimize your performance and physical development. This will help develop you into the best possible athlete in your time at Milligan. Academically, Milligan is an excellent school and has a very good reputation. In 2017, we were ranked 3rd for Best Colleges in Tennessee (BestColleges.com), 6th for Best Value (Christian Universities Online), and 23rd for top regional universities in the South (U.S. News & World Report). The academic performance of our players and our program is extremely important to us. It is important to set yourself up for the future and graduating with a great degree is part of that. You will be held to high standards both on and off the field.
