Jonathan Shaw

Jonathan Shaw, a former Union College standout goalkeeper, enters his eighth season as a member of the Bulldogs men's soccer coaching staff. After serving six seasons as an assistant coach, Shaw was named the head coach in June of 2017.


Entering 2023, he has compiled a a 71-46-19 record. His .522 winning percentage is the second-best in program history


He led the Bulldogs to an AAC title and NAIA National Tournament bert in 2019.


Shaw, a native of Merseyside, England, comes into the coaching profession after an outstanding four-year career as a Bulldog.


In his senior season of 2010, Shaw was named to the All-AAC First Team at goalkeeper for the second straight year. In his career, he was named NAIA National Player of the Week on two occasions (is the only player in program history to do so), and was a three-time AAC Defensive Player of the Week.


Shaw also etched his name into the Union College record books. At the time of his graduation, he held the program record for shutouts in a career (17) and was tied for first in shutouts in a season (7). which he set in 2009. He ranks second all-time in career saves with 281.


Before coming across the pond to Union, Shaw played for the Tranmere Rover's School of Excellence, and the Chester City School of Excellence and youth team during his up bringing.


In 2015, Shaw was named team captain and goalkeeper of the Knoxville Force of the National Premier Soccer League.


Shaw graduated from Union in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree, and holds an FA Coaching Certificate, a USSF D License and NSCAA Level 3 Goalkeeper License. Shaw is currently working on getting his USSF C License.


He earned his Masters Degree in Education from Union in 2013.
